104th foundation day of Asam Sahitya Sabha celebrated

DOOMDOOMA, Dec 27 - Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha (TZSS) in collaboration with Borhapjan Sakha Sahitya Sabha (BSSS) observed the 104th foundation day of Asam Sahitya Sabha at Borhapjan today. The day�s programme began with the hoisting of Sabha flag by the president of TZSS Arjun Baruah. TZSS secretary Manoram Bora initiated the Smriti Tarpan programme while BSSS president Saban Dhekial Phukan garlanded the portrait of Padmanath Gohain Baruah, the first Sabha president while BSSS secretary Baputi Handique lit the ceremonial lamp.

The renovated office building of BSSS was inaugurated by former minister Dileswar Tanti. Later, a meeting was held with Arjun Baruah in the chair. Asam Sahitya Sabha�s central executive committee member Sunil Gurung, TZSS assistant secretary Deben Deka, retired teacher Birusan Tanti, social activist Raju Sharma and several others addressed the meeting.

On the other hand, Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha (DSSS) also observed the day in it�s office premises today. DSSS president Bimala Baruah hoisted the Sabha flag while secretary Deben Deka offered floral tributes to the first president of the Sabha, Padmanath Gohain Baruah and other eminent literary figures of the state.

DSSS vice president Joysurjyya Bora, former secretary Nityananda Das and several others participated in the programme. In the evening, the DSSS office premise was illuminated with earthen lamps.

IN AZARA: Along with other parts of the state, Azara Sahitya Sabha (ASS) too celebrated the 104th foundation day of Asam Sahitya Sabha today at its office premises, an ANN Service report stated.

The programme started in the morning with the Sabha flag being hoisted by Manoranjan Bhattacharya, president of Azara Sahitya Sabha. Binita Devi Baruah Das, adviser of the Sabha unit initiated the Smriti Tarpan programme while Uddhav Mali, Bulu Kumari Borah, Sangita Das and Mrinmay Das highlighted the role of Asam Sahitya Sabha for overall development of Assamese language, literature and culture.
