104th birth anniversary of Joy Bhadra Hagjer celebrated

HAFLONG, April 3 - The 104th birth anniversary of Joy Bhadra Hagjer, the illustrious son of Dima Hasao was celebrated throughout the district in a befitting manner on Monday.

At Haflong, the NC Hills Autonomous Council organised the celebration at the Cultural Institute Hall with great enthusiasm.

In this connection, a well-attended meeting was held with Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member, NC Hills Autonomous Council as the chief guest while BB Hagjer, MLA, Ranu Langthasa, Chairperson, NCHAC, Amitabh Rajkhowa, Deputy Commissioner, Subrata Thaosen, Ngamrothang Hmar, Executive Members, Kailen Daolagupu, president JNH etc., as the guests of honour and special invitees.

All the speakers dwelt at length on the life, principles and contributions of Hagjer towards the country as well as to the land to which he belonged and appealed to the people of Dima Hasao to be inspired by his thoughts and to keep his memory alive.

This was followed by cultural performances by different groups of people living in this district.

Earlier, floral tribute was offered by the chief guest Gorlosa along with all the dignitaries present at the beautifully-decorated portrait of Hagjer.

At Diyungbra, the 104th birth anniversary of Joy Bhadra Hagjer was celebrated at the JB Hagjer High School with a day-long programme.

At Maibang, the JB Hagjer Memorial Club organised the celebrations with a day-long programme.

At Kalachand, the programme was organised by Kalachand Jalai Khurang Club.
