102 shops gutted in Hailakandi district

SILCHAR, Oct 22 � Near about 102 shops were gutted at Ramkrishna Nagar in Hailakandi district yesterday. The fire occurred in the after noon at 12 pm and it was continued to 4 pm. Initially, two fire brigade came in the spot but enable to control the fire.

According to local sources, the fire occurred from a tea stall. After the tea stall, it was spreaded to near by shops. As the fire occurred in a market place and most of the shops were adjoined, the fire force a big turn. One by one, shops were further which figure came to 102. Sources further said that this sort of fire did not occur in Ramkrishna Nagar before.

Sources said that at first the local people tried to control the fire. Later they inform fire brigade station. The fire brigades came but were unable to control it. As the fire was spreading, the public inform in the fire brigade station of Hailakandi, Patherkandi and Badarpur. Due to dilapidated road condition, the fire brigade reached lately when already the fire was under control.

Rashomoy Das, BDO, Ram Krishna Nagar, BC Nath, Circle officer and Lalit Mohan Suklabaidya, MP, rushed to the spot. The shops which further were medicine store, grocery shops and stationary shops. The proprietor of shops were helpless and were mercilessly crying about the grim situation.

Meanwhile, the local people inform the electricity board to cut off the electricity. But after long time the electricity was not cut off. After two hours when SDO of the electricity board came for observation, the local people gathered him. But he was able to escape from the situation with the help of the police personnel. The entire Ram Krishna Nagar local and Panchayat Market was gutted. Lalit Mohan Suklabaidya, MP, assured help to the victims as well as he will try to get fund for concrete shed for the market.
