AGARTALA, July 15 - Over ten thousand people have been affected in various parts of Tripura due to unprecedented rainfall over the past four days. In view of the deteriorating flood situation, the State Government has sounded an alert to avoid any kind of human casualty.
About 165.4 mm of rainfall has been recorded in Agartala city by 12 noon today, while five districts are affected, out of which West Tripura district was worst affected. However, the Met department has predicted more rainfall during the next 24 hours.
As per the latest reports, 3,934 persons of 1,185 families have been affected and 28 relief camps opened in the districts of West Tripura and Khowai. Other three districts � Sepahijala, South Tripura and Gomati are partly affected. In the meantime, one person has died due to drowning in South district.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is constantly monitoring the flood relief work in the State. He has directed all key agencies to monitor and assist in the flood relief work.
Howrah river is flowing above the danger level at 10.73 metre (danger level 10.50 mtr). Major places in Agartala Municipal Corporation area have been inundated with areas like Pratapgarh, Srilankabasti, Banamalipur, Shibnagar, Rishi Colony, Paradise Chowmuhani, RMS Chowmuhani, Bidurkarta Chowmuhani, and Chandrapur being severely affected.
The District administration has mounted rescue and evacuation operations. Manpower, boats and other equipments have been mobilised from District Administration, NDRF, TSR, and Assam Rifles for rescue operations.
Over 10,000 persons from 3,000 families are sheltered in 20 relief camps. Necessary relief materials are being provided to the sheltered people. All 13 pumps are operational since early morning today for pumping out the flood water from low-lying areas. Water Resource department is keeping a close watch on water levels in Howrah and Katakhal rivers.
