AGARTALA, May 7 - A villager died and around 10,000 people were severely affected when a cyclonic storm hit several parts of Tripura on Monday.
One villager � Hiramoni Santal (40) died at Chounitala village under South Belcherra ADC village of Khowai district when his house collapsed. The storm caused damage to homes of around 150 families of the village.
Several houses were damaged in Khowai district due to the cyclonic storm and the local administration has geared up to render all possible help to the affected families.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who visited a few relief camps of Khowai district on Monday, promised of providing financial assistance to the affected families.
The Norwester also severely hit several areas of Gomati, West and Dhalai districts according to the latest report by State Disaster Management Authority. In Mohanpur subdivision, damage was extensive with 30 dwellings flattened. �A total of 822 people took shelter in relief camps and the administration was asked to provide relief materials to the storm hit people at the earliest�, said an official of SDM, Mohanpur subdivision.
The gusty storm caused extensive damage to transmission lines in several areas in the State triggering power cuts.
