100-year-old freedom fighter LN Kakati feted

JAMUGURIHAT, Dec 1 - The 100th birthday of veteran freedom fighter, noted social worker and a retired teacher Laxmi Nath Kakati was observed recently at the naamghar of his birth place Patalorchuk village, Jamugurihat in a befitting manner.

The felicitation organised jointly by the Jamugurihat Guwahati Forum and Jamuguri Sahitya Sabha was attended by Dr Nitya Phukan, Iswar Chandra Borah, Kshiradhar Hazarika, Prabin Bhuyan etc., of the Mancha. He was warmly felicitated by various organisations and institutions of the area by offering felicitation papers, phulam gamosa, phulam jaapi etc., and by cutting a cake.

Nitya Borah, editor of Asomiya Pratidin, and a relative of Kakati and hailing from the same village sent a felicitation letter and a packet of books. Bhola Kataki, a veteran and noted stage and cinema actor and dramatist who got Nata Surjya Phani Sharma award this year was also felicitated in the function.

RC Goswami memorial lecture: Ramesh Chandra Goswami annual memorial lecture organised by the staff of Jamuguri HS School in memory of the noted science teacher of the school was delivered by Dr Padma Pani Mahanta retired director, Assam Forensic Laboratory in a function in the Jamuguri HS School chaired by Dharani Dhar Das, a retired subject teacher of the school and a noted artist.

Dr Mahanta in his lecture said that brilliant results are not necessary to become famous and a great man. Hard work, sincerity, perseverance and social responsibility are the hallmark of a great man. Naredra Modi, Sachin Tendulkar, Lata Mangeshkar, and 75% of Nobel Laureates have proved this. While Surjit Chaudhury explained the objectives, Kamal Goswami, Additional Director of Planning & Development, Upendra Chandra Goswami, an engineer and the eldest son of Late Goswami Dayal Parashar, Jiban Borah principal incharge of the school also attended the function and spoke.
