UDALGURI, Dec 20 -- The 100-bed Udalguri Civil Hospital is expected to open from January 15.
This was stated by Rihon Daimari, Minister of Public Health Engineering Department of the State Government on Saturday at a function to distribute government aids to beneficiaries of about 18 departments under the MukhyaMantrir Asom Vikash Yojana at the parade ground here.
Addressing the beneficiaries and public on the occasion, Daimari said that the State Government has taken all initiatives to raise the living standard of poor people by launching more than 100 schemes and if the schemes are properly executed, the State would march forward in all respects.
Daimari said that there was much difference in the standard of living of people of the backward district compared to that in 2001. He informed that the National Highways Authority of India has sanctioned an amount of Rs 47 crore for construction of roads from Rowta Chairali to Udalguri district headquarters.
An amount of Rs 15 crore for the construction of the dilapidated Bhairabkunda-Kahibari PWD Road is also under consideration under the Border Area Development Project and another Rs 10 crore has also been sanctioned for the Tangla-Jalukabari-Kachubil Road. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the Government to complete such developmental activities.
Speaking as guest of honour, Maheswar Boro, Kalaigaon MLA, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the funds sanctioned to them in a meaningful way. The meeting was presided over by Thaneswar Malakar, Udalguri DC who hoped that the poorer sections would be benefited by the schemes.
In the ceremonial distribution of government aids, the PHE department of Udalguri gave away to 20 school managing committees Rs 3 lakh each for construction of school sanitation block, while the Revenue department provided torchlights and badges to 76 gaonburahs of Mazbat and Udalguri blocks.
The Health department provided cash assistance to 10 beneficiaries under the Majoni scheme and the Sericulture department provided maintenance cost to the eri farmers under the Augmentation of Eri Food Plant scheme of Udalguri subdivision for 2010-11 to five beneficiaries.
The Udalguri Sub Divisional Welfare Office also distributed sewing machines to 20 beneficiaries belonging to the Scheduled Tribe category sanctioned by the BTC, Kokrajhar while it also distributed cotton yarn to the 20 beneficiaries of OBC category sanctioned by the State Government. The department also distributed 20 spray machines to 20 ST beneficiaries sanctioned by the BTC authority. In the same way, the departments of Education under the Inspector of Schools, Relief branch, Handloom and Textiles, Divisional Forest Office, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, DRDA, Udalguri, Agriculture and Veterinary provided various items and cash to the beneficiaries which included scholarships to the BPL students, financial grants to the victims of elephant depredations, cards and rice under the Chief Minster�s Anna Suraksha Yojana to the beneficiaries including self-help groups.
The Agriculture department of the district also distributed 20 power tillers per LAC to five self-help groups on the occasion, while the Veterinary department distributed seeds for fodder cultivation to as many as 1,000 beneficiaries.
