AIZAWL, Sept 12 - A court in Champhai district today sentenced an 18-year-old youth to ten years of rigorous imprisonment for smuggling heroin.
The special district court under the NDPS Act found Salemthara, a resident of Champhai, guilty of smuggling heroin, and convicted him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him, failing to pay which he would have to spend two more months in prison.
Salemthara was arrested with 307 grams of heroin at Zotlang near Champhai on June 24, 2018. He brought the heroin from Myanmar and planned to sell it in Mizoram.
