GUWAHATI, June 24 Ten meritorious students of underprivileged background picked up by Oil India Super 30 an ambitious corporate social responsibility initiative, have cracked the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) this year. Out of the 60 students in two units of institution in Guwahati and Jorhat, 40 have made it to the JEE (Mains).

Started by the Oil India Limited in 2010, Oil India Super 30-based on the model of Patna-based institution Super 30, which is scripting a new success story every year would open another wing in Dibrugarh from this year.

Under this 11-month residential coaching programme for JEE Mains, Advanced and other engineering entrance examinations, students are given free coaching, lodging and boarding. OIL has entered into an MoU with Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership Society for specialized coaching of such entrance examinations.

The mentor of Patnas Super 30, Abhayananda, DGP of Bihar, is also actively associated with the OIL Super 30 and he is in touch with the students here. He teaches physics to the students via video chat and mobile phone.

Addressing the media here, DGM, OIL SK Rai, who is coordinating the programme said that the results of OILs Super 30 have improved over the years and the students enrolled with this programme are studying in various prestigious institutions including the IITs and the NITs.

Of 26 students of the first batch, 23 cleared JEE-Mains and two of them got admission in IIT whereas nine of them went to the NIT. In the second batch, five students got seat in IITs and 13 got the chance to study in the NIT. This year eight students of Guwahati centre and two from Dibrugarh centre have cleared JEE (Advanced).

With a new centre in Dibrugarh, we would train 90 underprivileged students in a year, which is a great opportunity for those bright students who cannot think about quality coaching for engineering entrances due to poor financial health, said Sumona Sinha, Senior Centre Manager of Guwahati unit of Super 30.

We conduct tests in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and government schools to find bright students of underprivileged backgrounds. Open tests are also conducted in six to seven centres across the State, where the students can take part to get enrolled in OIL India Super 30, she added. Hiren Chandra Bora and Tridib Duvarah of OIL also spoke on the occasion.
