By The Assam Tribune

ITANAGAR, April 11 At least 10 persons were injured, one of them seriously, in a clash between Singpho community and Chakma refugees at Mpen village in Changlang district of Arunchal Pradesh on Friday.

Official sources said, quoting delayed reports reaching here, that the clashes broke out when some Singpho community members were attacked, allegedly by a 100-strong mob of Chakmas.

While nine injured persons were discharged after first aid, another was taken to Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, with head wound, sources said.

Inquiries revealed the Singhpho community members were on way to inspect the land from where the Chakma encroachers had been evicted by the local administration when the clashes broke.

Local administration clamped prohibitory orders under 144 CrPC in the area.

Fridays skirmish was preceded by another clash few days back when two persons were injured in a firing between the two communities with 15 rounds fired.

Tension had been mounting in the area since April 5 when the administration evicted hundreds of Chakma settlers from some plots but the refugees built huts in the area again.

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has alleged Chakma refugees are carrying out attacks on locals and threatened to launch a democratic movement if no concrete step was taken within a month. PTI
