NILAMBAZAR, May 10 � More than one lakh people of Ramkrishnanagar and Rakesh Nagar were affected as flood water of Sonbeel and Ratabeel inundated more than 200 revenue villages during last week in Karimganj district.
The surging waters damaged houses and standing boro crops in five mauzas of Ramkrishnanagar, Kalibari, Dalu and Rakesh Nagar in Ramkrishnanagar and Badarpur circle.
According to sources, more than 80,000 hectares of boro fields are under flood waters, giving a severe blow to marginal farmers. Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angmuthu visited the affected areas recently and took stock of the situation.
