1 killed, 2 hurt as storm hits Khonsa

ITANAGAR, May 1 - Sporadic cyclonic storms continued to wreak havoc in Arunachal Pradesh causing severe damages to people�s lives and properties.

Two days after a massive cyclonic storm accompanied by heavy rains and hailstorm struck Diyun area in eastern Arunachal�s Changlang district claiming two lives, a heavy storm hit Khonsa, the headquarters of Tirap district in the wee hours today killing one person while two others sustained serious injuries.

The deceased, identified as Md Juber Ahmad (21), and the injured persons were from Karimganj in Assam and engaged in a private house construction works in the town.

The house at Club Colony in Khonsa, in which the victims were staying, collapsed as a big tree fell on it during the storm killing a man on the spot and seriously injuring two others. The injured were later admitted to the District Hospital, Khonsa.

Many houses were also damaged by the storm. Several trees got uprooted alongside the township roads disrupting traffic movement.

Tirap Deputy Commissioner Ravi Jha has expressed shock and grief over the accident and assured all help and cooperation to the victims. District Disaster Management Officer P Duggong has informed that ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased and the injured would be paid as per norms.

EAC Techu Aran along with a police team rushed to the spot to assess the extent of damage and evacuate the injured to the hospital. The body was sent to District Hospital for post-mortem.

Khonsa and adjacent areas have been facing unpredictable weather conditions over the last few weeks.
