1 held for attempt to murder

BONGAIGAON, Nov 22 - The police on Saturday arrested Kumar Prithiviraj Narayan Deb (18), the self-styled president of the Royal Union of Koch-Mech, on two separate charges registered against him this month at the Basugaon Police Station in Chirang district. and produced him before the District Judicial Court at Kajalgaon, the district headquarters, from where he was sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Prithiviraj, son of Pradip Narayan Deb of Goglapara, Basugaon, had allegedly made a failed attempt to kill his wife at Bhutiapra on November 1.

Prithiviraj�s wife is a minor and a resident of Hekaipara, Basugaon, whom he had forcibly married three months ago, the girl�s family alleged.

Following the incident, the girl�s family had lodged a complaint against Prithiviraj at the Basugaon Police Station on November 1. Accordingly, the police had registered a case (No. 161/2015) under Section 366 (A)/307 of the IPC (read with Child Marriage Act 2005).

Two local media persons, who covered the incident of Prithiviraj�s alleged attack on his wife in their respective newspapers, filed another FIR against Prithiviraj at the same police station on November 7 after they were allegedly threatened by him on the social media.

The police have registered another case (No. 162/2005) under Sections 505(2)/504/506 of the IPC against the self-styled leader of the Koch-Mech group and initiated an investigation.
