GUWAHATI, Aug 31 - The Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) organised an organ donation awareness programme at the NEF Law College here on Tuesday, said a delayed press release. The staff members and students of the college attended the programme.
Useful information regarding organ and tissue donation was highlighted at the programme.
There are lakhs of patients who are in need of organs like kidney, liver, lungs and are dying daily due to lack of sufficient organs. This gap between demand and supply can be minimised only by donating organs following brain stem death, said Dr Rajeev TP, Professor and Head, Dept of Urology, GMCH and nodal officer of ROTTO.
One deceased donor can save up to nine lives and improve the quality of life of 50 other needy patients. It is very important for the citizens, media as well as NGOs to come forward to promote awareness about organ donation among the public of this region, Dr Rajeev added.
More than 70 students and teachers attended the programme and got vital information about the noble cause of organ donation.
