AIZAWL, Dec 22 - As many as 860 vehicles have been detained and fined Rs 2,35,850 for violation of traffic rules in the ongoing Zero Tolerance Drive launched in the capital here from December 7 to December 19 by traffic police in association with State Transport department, officials said.

Of the 940 violators, 293 have been arrested for improper number plate while 155 have been arrested for parking in no parking zone and 33 others for drunken driving. Further, 132 violators were arrested for not carrying driving licence. Of the seized 860 vehicles, two wheelers accounted for 610 followed by LMV at 109.

The Zero Tolerance drive is being carried out randomly at certain places in Aizawl and it is expected to continue till New Year celebration is over, traffic official said.
