Zeliang for Dimapur under Smart City project

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Sept 8 - After State capital Kohima made it to the list of 98 cities released by the Union Government under its flagship Smart City project on August 27, Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang has urged the Centre to include Dimapur, the commercial capital of Nagaland, under the project.

Zeliang made the request to Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu at a meeting in New Delhi on September 5, according to a release issued by the media cell of the CMO.

The Chief Minister also requested the Union Minister to reconsider the funding pattern for Smart Cities, saying the resource constrained northeastern States would not be in a position to contribute their 50% share. He further proposed taking up of the Green City project under the programme and said the project may be located at a suitable location somewhere between Dimapur and Kohima.

Zeliang also met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and apprised him of widespread destruction in Nagaland caused by heavy rains and several landslides. He requested Singh to depute a team to make an assessment of the damage caused and sanction relief under the National Disaster Relief Fund.
