Youths greet New Year with plantations

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, April 11 - In an uncommon manner, the Dibrugarh Development Area Yuva Mancha welcomed the Assamese New Year by sanitising and cleaning all its neigbourhood surroundings, followed by plantations of saplings in the area for greener environment, instead of going the usual onstage glamour way.

The youth body pledged to make the area environment friendly with greener and clean surroundings from New Year onwards. For the members of the Mancha, celebration of Bihu means revelry and fanfare in a most comfortable and healthy atmosphere.

Instead of collecting funds for huge stage functions with unchecked noise pollutions due to high decibel sound systems, we want to go for a pollution-free environment. In the next five years, we want to bring some change at least in our area, Sibasish Sandilya, president of the Mancha said.

The youth body in collaboration with the residents of the area welcomed Bihu by taking up plantations mostly on the roadsides of the area where more than 30 saplings were planted today.
