Youth held for spreading lies on Facebook

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Sept 29 - A youth in his early 20s, who identifies himself as James Hmar on his Facebook account, was arrested by the Aizawl Police for spreading lies on the social networking site.

On September 27, Hmar had posted a Facebook comment, alleging that six non-locals were sexually molesting a local schoolgirl inside a hardware store located at Zarkawts main street. As I was outnumbered and the molesters tried to attack me with sticks, I ran out and cried for help. But nobody paid any attention to me, Hmar said in his post. He said those he pleaded for help demanded evidence (of the sexual molestation) and insisted on seeing the girl first. He said he was upset and asked: How could the locals of Zarkawt refuse to rescue a Mizo girl from being sexually molested by non-locals?

When the shopkeepers came to know of the post, they clarified that no such incident had taken place.

The police immediately swung into action following this and arrested Hmar who confessed that he had cooked up the story after he had an argument with the shopkeepers.
