JORHAT, May 14 - Police late last night arrested a youth Sumrit Kumar Das, from Srimantapur outskirts under Garmur police outpost here on charges of harassing the inmates of a private girls� hostel at Tarajan area since the past few days by stalking and by way of displaying obscene acts near the hostel.
Sumrit allegedly had been harassing the inmates by parking his two-wheeler in front of the hostel and then acting in an obscene manner.
A police source said that the owner of the hostel yesterday lodged an FIR on behalf of the girls at the Jorhat Police Station against the then unidentified youth and a case (No:1076/2018) was registered under Sections 354 (D), 509 of the IPC along with relevant Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Subsequently, police undertook an investigation which led to the arrest of Das.
