GUWAHATI, Dec 17 � In yet another crime committed inside the city, a young doctor was killed by unidentified miscreants last night. The body of Dr Amir Hussain was recovered in an area close to Deepor Beel this morning after he was reported missing from Hatigaon.
As reported to police, Dr Hussain was meeting patients at a pharmacy at Hatigaon when three youths visited the place. One of them went inside and spoke to him, while the other two waited outside. Subsequently, Dr Hussain accompanied the youths carrying his stethoscope and blood pressure measuring equipment.
As he did not return to the pharmacy till the time of closure, phone calls were made to his cellphone, which was found switched off. The Hatigaon police was informed thereafter.
Today in the early hours, a body was recovered from Deosotal near Deepor Beel, and the police matched descriptions with that of a person who was reported missing from Hatigaon. Gorchuk police referring to post mortem report said Dr Hussain was strangulated. Injury marks were also seen on his face.
Nobody was picked up in this connection till the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Junior Doctors' Association (JDA), Gauhati Medical College and Hospital condemned the murder of Dr Amir Hussain. He was working as an attached M&HO-1 in the Department of Gastroenterology, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Such kinds of activities are highly intolerable and JDA-GMCH demanded a quick enquiry and arrest of the culprits. JDA-GMCH also conveyed their condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family of Dr Hussain.
