GUWAHATI, Dec 31 A commemoration meeting organised by the Assam Branch of the All India Patriotic Forum at the Guwahati Press Club here today paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters and martyrs of the freedom struggle of the country, who valiantly fought the British colonial power about 100 years back when the world was overwhelmed by the armed engagements of the imperial powers during the World War I.

The organisations like the Ghadr Party, Berlin Committee, Anushilan Dal and Jugantar Dal, were engaged in an effort to trigger an uprising within the British Indian Army. Freedom fighters like Ras Behari Basu, Lala Hardayal, Bagha Jatin, Bishnu Ganesh Pingley, Kartar Singh, Sohan Singh Bakhna, Raja Mahendra Pratap, Barkat Ullah, Rahmat Ali Shah, among others, were leading the anti-colonial struggle of the Indian people during that period. The meeting recalled their contributions with due honour.

The meeting, presided over by Rupam Barua, who is the president of the Assam Branch of the Forum, was addressed by several speakers.

The speakers included Colonel Monoranjan Goswami, former MLA Ajay Dutta, journalist Champak Sarma, social worker Jaharlal Saha, engineer Hareswar Talukdar, journalists Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Promod Kalita, educationist Dr Jagadindra Roy Choudhury and Mallika Roy Choudhury, and Anindita Choudhury and Dipti Barua.
