Writer felicitated

GUWAHATI, Nov 13 - Brihattar Panjabari Sahitya Sabha (BPSS), Panjabari Senior Citizens� Association (PSCA) and Baghorbori Asomi Mahila Samiti and a few other socio-cultural organisations of Panjabari felicitated writer and social activist Urmila Chakravarty, former president of BPSS and an office-bearer of PSCA, at a function held at Bipanan Kshetra on the occasion of her 80th birthday recently.

Congratulating her, senior journalist DN Chakravartty referred to the various laudable activities and contributions of Urmila Chakravarty in the field of literature, women�s empowerment and in upholding the rights of the elderly.

Dr Bijoy Krishna Deva Sarma, Dr Surendra Mohan Mahanta and Dr Chandraprabha Bhuyan, while congratulating her on her birthday, recollected her contributions as a writer, an organiser, and as former president of BPSS.

Chakravarty, in her speech, said she was brought up in a culturally endowed place like Nazira and was married to a person well known in the field of translation in Assamese literature like the late Amulya Kumar Chakravarty. She said she would continue to work for the welfare of society.
