World Theatre Olympic

DERGAON, March 21 - A Dergaon-based drama group from North East Theatre Academy is all set to stage a play in the 8th World Theatre Olympic at Nehru Centre Auditorium in Mumbai on April 2.

As many as 450 dramas from across the country and abroad will be staged during the 8th World Theatre Olympic, being organised since February 17 for the first time in India.

The Olympic has been organised under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Government of India and National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi.

A total of 14 dramas from north-eastern States have also been selected for the Olympic. Among those, the drama Kamala Kunwarir Sadhu, composed by Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi also got selected for the Olympic. The drama is based on a popular folk story of Assam.

It is worth mentioning that the drama was also staged at Abhinaya National Drama Festival held in Hydarabad and National Drama Festival organised by the NSD at Mukangchang in Nagaland and got warm recognition. The drama, directed by Simanta Phukan, is being acted by Gitika Phukan, Aditi baruah Chakraborty, Poly Phukan, Jilmil Jonak, Pratyasha Bharadwaj, Geetashree Bora, Monsumi Tamuli, Darshana Barthakur, Mrinali Gogoi, Anneswa Priyadarshini, Nitumoni Bora, Antara Hazarika and Mayurpankhi Dutta.

A special show of the drama will be held at Bapuji Mandir in Dergaon on March 25. The team will also stage the children�s drama Moi Tuniye Tun Tunalu, composed by Navakanta Baruah and directed by Simanta Phukan at Palakada in Kerala.
