World Sleep Day celebrated

GUWAHATI, March 16 � The North East Sleep Society (NESS), formed to increase awareness and knowledge in sleep medicine among physicians and patients, celebrated World

Sleep Day on Friday along with the rest of the world.

The day is an annual event intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call for action on important issues related to sleep.

The celebration aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems through better prevention and management of sleep disorders. This year�s slogan is �Restful sleep, Easy

breathing, Healthy body�.

�The objective of the 2014 slogan is to raise awareness of factors that are modifiable and can improve the quality of sleep and reduce the burden of fatigue.�

A growing branch of medicine, sleep medicine includes various diseases like sleep apnea, insomnia, sleep seizure, parasomnia, sleep-related movement disorders etc.

These diseases and related disorders are being treated by various specialities like pulmonologist, ENT, psychiatry, neurology, internal medicine, cardiology,

endocrinology, etc. The NESS has taken initiative to bring all interested doctors together under one roof to treat various sleep disorders with a holistic approach.

Earlier, NESS president Dr Gautam Khaund and secretary Dr Kripesh Ranjan Sarma addressed a press conference at Guwahati Press Club explaining about the relevance of

the day.
