World Malaria Day observed in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, April 26 - Nagaland observed the World Malaria Day under the theme �End malaria for good�, yesterday with the medical departments of the respective districts organising sanitation drives.

In Kohima, the sanitation drive was organised by the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare at different colonies.

Volunteers of various localities and wards initiated the cleanliness as assigned by the department on the theme �Think, Plan, Create a Malaria-free Environment�. Officials from Health and State Malaria Department and also district municipal members monitored the cleanliness drive. According to District Vector Borne Officer and Kohima CMO Dr Benny, the department undertook the drive to motivate the community to think and plan for a cleaner environment, which would ultimately result in a malaria-free environment.

Dimapur observed the World Malaria Day under Urban Malaria Scheme by organising sanitation drive in all the wards. To mark the day, the cleanest wards were awarded prizes. SDO(C) Longsen Lotha, DPO, NVBDCP, Dr Moa Jamir and Assistant Director, UVBDCS, Kikolul Khrieya judged the sanitation drive.

In Mokokchung, the prize distribution ceremony of the inter-ward cleanliness drive competition, organised by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (Mokokchung) in collaboration with Mokokchung district Swachh Bharat Mission, was held at IDSP Hall, IMDH Mokokchung. Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Sushil Kumar Patel graced the event as chief guest. Patel appreciated the 18 wards under Mokokchung town for their active participation in the competition.

In Longleng, the District Hospital in collaboration with Swacch Bharat Mission also organised a sanitation drive-cum competition in the town. During the programme, Dr Imnameren Phom spoke on the menace and its consequences of malaria and methods on preventing the dreaded disease. He also encouraged the gatherings to keep their surrounding clean in order to keep themselves safe from the disease.

Zunheboto district observed the day by carrying out sanitation drive in all the colonies. During the sanitation drive the colonies cleaned the drainages, clogged culvert and filled the potholes. The drive was spearheaded by GBs and youth body.
