World Cancer Day today

GUWAHATI, Feb 3 � On the occasion of the World Cancer Day on February 4, city-based Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute will observe the occasion in collaboration with the State Tobacco Control Cell, Voluntary Health Association of Assam, Pathik, Deepsikha Foundation and Nabajeevan Sarathi with a series of events.

An interactive session will be held at 10:30 am at the institute�s conference hall with prominent personalities of the state to form a network of like-minded individuals and organisations to work for cancer control.

This will be followed by an awareness programme on harmful effects of tobacco on health with 200 schools and college students in the auditorium of the institute at 11:30 am. Prominent personalities of the state will administer pledge to students to refrain from tobacco products.

In the evening, there will be a musical programme for cancer patients and long-term cancer survivors in the auditorium. The programme will be sponsored by Matri Mandir, Guwahati.

In addition, an awareness programme for school children at Krishnanagar High School would be held on that day.

Besides, a cancer awareness and early detection camp at Kalaigaon, Darrang district, will be held on February 5, followed by one at Rani on February 16, at Japorigog here on February 18, and at Hafiznagar slum on February 20, said a press release.

Meanwhile, city-based Hayat Hospital through a press release stated that it will observe the World Cancer Day with a cancer detection camp.
