Workshop recommends climate smart agriculture

IMPHAL, April 27 - The two-day regional workshop for Northeastern region on climate adaptation programme and sustainable eco-system came to an end here on Tuesday.

The workshop has recommended a baseline data documentation of bio-diversity, introduction of multiple cropping in Manipur valley, climate smart agriculture and to give wetlands due importance in climate change programmes.

The workshop attended by a number of experts from diverse fields including government officials from Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland, Mizoram and host Manipur, also recommended designing adaptation mechanism and initiatives to reduce carbon foot print.

The workshop organised by State Environment department was also attended by Forest and Environment Minister Irengbam Hemochandra, Additional Secretary (Forest & Environment) Shambhu Singh, Cooperation Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation Deputy Director Shirish Sinha and Dr Nisha Mendiratta of Climate Change Programme, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
