GAURIPUR, July 31 - A ten-day workshop on Sattriya dance sponsored by the Cultural Centre, Gauripur under the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam and in association with the Sankar Madhab Cultural Centre, Gauripur came to an end on July 30 last.

The valedictory ceremony held on the premises of the Cultural Centre was chaired by Ambu Nath Sharma, and was attended by Ashoka Chakrabarty, retired principal, PC Institution, Gauripur, Sabuj Chakrabarty, retired subject teacher of SPHS School and a few others. Prof Ghana Kanta Das, in-charge principal, PB College and the appointed speaker expressed his happiness for organising such an important workshop to enable the young learners to know and learn the technique of Sattriya dance.

Earlier, Arun Bhuyan, in-charge, Cultural Centre explained the purpose of the ceremony. Bhagyashree Kalita of Abhayapuri participated in the workshop and imparted training to the young learners numbering forty.

Before starting of the function a two minutes silence was observed in memory of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. The trainees demonstrated a few items of Sattriya dance. The trainees were distributed certificate by the dignitaries. Arun Bhuyan offered the vote of thanks at the end. The ceremony was anchored by Manas Chakrabarty and Ramkrishna Bhakat. Another workshop on Goalpariya folk song came to an end on July 28 last which held at Dumardaha near here where 70 participants took part.
