SILCHAR, March 28 � Manuscripts and other archaeological records should be handled with care, said noted manuscriptologist and former HoD of Bengali of Guru Charan College, Dr Amalendu Bhattacharjee.
On the sidelines of the ongoing ten-day national workshop on �Preventive conservation of manuscripts in Normal School repository, Silchar,� Dr Bhattacharjee said that the workshop is being organised by Guru Charan College in association with the National Mission for Manuscripts, New Delhi. The aim behind the workshop is to preserve the manuscripts available at the Normal School, he added.
�Our motive behind organising the workshop is to preserve all the available manuscripts of the school and we have had around 180 manuscripts so far.� He also stated that there are 30 participants from various colleges of the Barak Valley and also from West Bengal and Manipur in the workshop, which would conclude on April 1.
Dr Bhattacharjee said that there is a great need for acid-free mount board which will make the process of conservation of manuscripts much easier.
