Workshop on media certification held

IMPHAL, Jan 16 - Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, Rajkumar Dinesh on Saturday urged the media fraternity here to give �equal coverage� to avoid paid news phenomenon for a free and fair elections in the State.

Paid news according to Press Council of India, is any news or analysis appearing in any media (Print or Electronic) for a price in cash or kind as consideration.

The Additional CEO was briefing editors and reporters of both print and electronic media in the State during a day- long training cum workshop on Media Certification and Monitoring in connection with the ensuing Assembly elections here. He said that the media should resist political pressure and financial considerations offered.

Media must not broadcast o publish any form of �hate speech� or �obnoxious content� that many incite unwanted acts. He said it must extend possible help to carry out voters� education programme.

Liquor seized: Churachandpur district police and Excise department on Saturday disposed off local and Indian made foreign liquor seized since December. The disposed articles include 668 bottles of liquor, 637 litres of local liquor and 300 pieces of yeast cake, police said.
