Workshop on electronic mortality record software

GUWAHATI, June 22 - An electronic mortality record software (e-Mor) workshop was organised at the Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) today with technical and financial support from the National Centre for Disease Informatics (NCDIR), Bengaluru under the Indian Council of Medical Research.

The main objective of the workshop was to strengthen the medical certification of cause of death by training healthcare professionals and allied health personnel.

Altogether 37 doctors and allied personnel from several hospitals of the North East attended the workshop. The participating hospitals included STNM Hospital, Sikkim; Silchar Medical College; Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal; Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pasighat; Cachar Cancer Hospital; Civil Hospital, Aizawl; Naga Hospital Authority of Kohima and Tomo Riba State Hospital, Naharlagun.

The training of delegates was done by experts from the NCDIR, Bengaluru.

Dr Amal Chandra Kataki, Director of BBCI said that the institute would continue to serve as a training hub for cancer registries and the ongoing pattern of care and survival studies in the North East.

�Besides, various teaching and training programmes in oncology at BBCI will bridge the gap of manpower required for cancer prevention and control in the region,� he added.

Speaking on the occasion via video-conferencing from Bengaluru, Dr Prashat Mathur, Director of NCDIR, spoke on the usefulness of the electronic mortality records software (e-Mor). He said the e-Mor would aid doctors in correctly recording the cause of death and help generate quality statistical data on mortality.
