NALBARI, Sept 2 - A zonal workshop on Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) under Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, was organised at Nalbari under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural development (NABARD) on August 30. The workshop was inaugurated by Kumar Rakesh Chandra, deputy general manager of NABARD. In his inaugural speech, Kumar stated that Assam has been allocated a subsidy of Rs 3480.00 lakh for the year 2018-19, which is the second-highest in the country.The deputy general manager further said that the banks and veterinary departments officers should to play a vital role in promoting this DEDS scheme of the Union Government.
Addressing as chief guest, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nalbari Gauri Shankar Sarma in his keynote speech urged the bankers and government officers to help unemployed youths in setting up small dairy units, which would go a long way in tackling unemployment problem of the state. The inaugural meeting was addressed among others by Bhabani Deka, regional manager, AGVB, Biswajit Deb, district development manager of NABARD, Darrang district, Debajyoti Biswas, district development manager, Nalbari and Baksa besides bank managers from Nalbari, Darrang, Baksa and Udalguri districts.
The district veterinary officers from Nalbari and Darrang district were also present. Members of dairy farmers and farmers Producer Organisation (FPO) also attended the workshop. An interactive session was followed by a presentation on DEDS.
