GUWAHATI, Jan 25 - In view of the forthcoming South Asian Games, which will be co-hosted by Guwahati, the Kamrup Metro district administration has directed a halt to all digging and pipe-laying activities of various water supply schemes in the city till February 20.
�... it has been observed that JICA Water Supply Project is indulging in digging of all the main roads in and around Guwahati for pipe-laying works relating to the water supply scheme ... such activities before the upcoming South Asian Games, to be held from February 5 to 16 in Guwahati, will be causing severe embarrassment and inconveniences to the delegates and spectators coming for this prestigious event,� said an order issued by Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro.
It added, �In view of the above... direct the authorities of various water supply projects (JICA, JNNURM and ADB-sponsored water supply schemes) to stop all the digging and pipe-laying activities till February 20. Only restoration and renovation work may be done wherever necessary. Any violation of the order will lead to confiscation of all materials and equipments of the executing agency.�
The administration has also directed the Superintending Engineer of PWD (Road) and DCP (Traffic) to supervise implementation of the order.
