HAILAKANDI, Dec 17 - The 76th commemoration of Nupi Lal Ningshing Numit was observed recently at the conference hall of Thougan Marup, Laishramkun, at Lala of Hailakandi district under the joint auspices of Hailakandi Handloom Society and United Manipuri Association of Assam.

The heroic deeds of the Muslim women who fought alongside the Manipuri women in the second Nupi Lal on December 12, 1939, were remembered on the occasion.

The meeting held on the occasion was presided over by the chairperson of the Handloom Society, Kunjashwri Singha, and was addressed by circle officer of Lala, Madhumita Nath, Monika Singh, eminent writer N Dhananjoy Singha, principal of Lala PK Girls HS School, Anjan Luang, president of Jariben Sports Association, Bhagirath Singha, vice-chairman of Lala Town Committee, Niyati Banerjee, district president of United Manipuri Association of Assam, S Bikramjit Singha, social activist Biswajit Singha, among others.

All the speakers elaborately explained the history of the day and urged the women of the community to come forwarding for fighting against all odd of the society with courage.
