Women�s rally prevented from marching in front of MP�s house

NALBARI, Dec 25 - Police in Ghograpar police prevented a rally to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Act taken out by women from Baharghat area in Nalbari district from marching in front of the house of Mangaldai Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia on Tuesday. The protest rally was diverted through an isolated road by police.

Hundreds of women of Baharghat joined an anti-CAA rally organised by the Baharghat Anchalik Students� Union. The protesters gathered at the Baharghat MV School premises holding placards displaying various anti-CAA and anti-government slogans. The protesters also raised slogans against the BJP government, and against the Act.

When the protesters wanted to march in front of the house of MP Dilip Saikia, police prevented them and forced to divert their route. Ghograpar police tightened security arrangements at the Momaitola residence of the MP due to the anti-CAA rally.

Finally, the women protesters marched through Larma-Batakuchi to the field of Barkhala Paschim Borigog Dhirdutta HS School.

A protest meeting was later held at Barkhala where Samarjyoti Mahanta, assistant secretary of the AASU�s Nalbari district unit, and Hirakjyoti Sarma, general secretary of the Ghograpar Anchalik unit of AASU, spoke against the Act.
