Womens body objects to ritual in Tawang village

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, June 22 - The Arunachal Pradesh Womens Welfare Society (APWWS) has taken strong exception to a ritual purportedly performed in a Tawang village where women were made to swear that they voted for the ruling BJP in the recently held polls.

The Society said that such rituals undermine personal liberty, while adding that harassment of women is absolutely unacceptable.

The APWWS appealed to the district police and administration to ensure that the perpetrators are booked so that such unacceptable behaviour is not repeated.

A video of the ritual has surfaced in which an alleged BJP worker is seen asking people to swear before holy Buddhist scriptures that they voted for the party in the Parliamentary and Assembly elections.

The incident reportedly occurred at Tangzen village in Kitpi Circle under the Tawang Assembly Constituency on June 19 last.
