Women voters to play crucial role in Kamrup

JALUKBARI, April 8 - Women voters will play a decisive role in the second phase of Assembly elections in Kamrup election district to be held on April 11. The total women electors in Kamrup election district is 3,12,326 occupying 48.45% of the total electors.

In a bid to ensure women�s participation in the election process, the election district administration has taken a new initiative for the first time by engaging women polling personnel in eight strategic polling stations where women will solely run the entire polling process. In this regard, 72 women polling personnel have been trained by the administration.

There are only five women candidates among the 32 contesting candidates in the four LACs under Kamrup election district � Boko (SC), Chaygaon, Palasbari and Hajo. While in Hajo LAC, three women candidates are in the fray out of 16, in Boko LAC there is only one woman candidate out of six candidates. Palasbari LAC also has only one woman candidate out of six.
