Women street vendors sent to jail

IMPHAL, May 6 � Twenty-five women street vendors who were arrested by the police on Wednesday have been remanded to 15-day judicial custody by the Imphal West chief judicial magistrate yesterday.

Raj Bhavan here to submit a memorandum to the Governor.

Women vendors who ply their wares from pavements in and around the newly-constructed Khwairamband Bazar had few days ago been moved to an open facility in Lamphel here by government order. The vendors claimed that the newly-allotted space is too far away to provide them good economic returns.
