KALAIGAON, Dec 22 - In the backdrop of the AASU�s call to the womenfolk of Assam to raise their voice against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019, several hundred women of Kalaigaon and Tangla came out to a �Nari Shakti Abasthan� event on December 21.
The womenfolk�s sit-in strike against CAA started at 10 am and continued till 3 pm. At Kalaigaon, more than 300 women and girls assembled in front of the Kalaigaon PWD Inspection Bangalow to join the sit-in strike call given by AASU.
Members of various women organisations of Kalaigaon, namely Kalaigaon Mahila Samiti, Lekhika Samaroh, Nari Adhikar Surakhya Samiti and woman supporters of AASU, AJYCP, Brihottar Asomiya Yuva Manch, Kendukalai Sahitya Samaj joined the anti-CAA sit-in strike at Kalaigaon. At Tangla, more than 1,000 women of all age groups joined the AASU-sponsored all- women sit-in strike near MB Road.The participating women representing various social and political organisations strongly raised their voice against CAA.
In the meantime, the law and order situation remained peaceful both at Kalaigaon and Tangla.
