JAMUGURIHAT, Sept 13 - A mentally-challenged woman, aged about 35, probably from West Bengal, who had recently undergone an HIV test, was allegedly gangraped on the night of September 7, when she was roaming near the Jamugurihat Centre here.
The Jamuguri Police investigated the matter, took her to Tezpur for a medical test and confirmed rape. In the meantime, on September 12, four youths were taken into custody by Jamuguri Police in this connection.
The four accused are Dhan (Robin) Saikia (28) of Dekasunder village, Ritu Moni Mahanta (21), Prartha Pratim Baruah (19) and Sanjay Boruah (24), all from Barbhagia. The local people have demanded stern punishment to the culprits.
The Sonitpur District Physically Disabled Association has also demanded exemplary punishment to the guilty.
