Woman Maoist activist held

GUWAHATI, May 16 � One Kavita Rabha (31), said to be a district committee member of Maoist, was arrested from Odalbakra area here last night.

Based on her revelations and subsequent tip-off from the Assam Police, Ranchi Police arrested Prasanna alias Pranab, who is the elder brother of Kavita and a hardcore Maoist cadre.

Later in the day, Kavita�s younger brother Rajiv Rabha was also detained from Hajo.

Kavita is the wife of Anukul Naskar alias Paresh as a senior Maoist leader, who was arrested from Silchar by Assam Police on May 7.

Police also recovered two desktops, one hard disc, three pen drives, 15 CDs, two cell phones and some incriminating documents including Maoist literature from her house where she was staying on rented accommodation.

Inspector General of Police (CWR) Dr LR Bishnoi while briefing the media informed that the arrests were made after call details record of certain Maoist cadres including Paresh and Aklanta Rabha, both central committee members, were shared with the law enforcing agencies of other Maoist-affected States.

Dr Bishnoi said Kavita was entrusted with the job of printing Maoist literature and circulating them, besides maintaining of accounts.

He also informed that a Kolkata-based rented house where Paresh was residing has been sealed by the local police and a team of Assam police is leaving for the neighbouring State tomorrow to search the premises.

The senior police official said that so far six district committees have been formed in the State by the Maoist, mostly in lower Assam areas.

More than 60 persons with Maoist links have been arrested by the Assam Police in the recent years and of late cases of petty extortions is also being reported.
