NORTH LAKHIMPUR, May 29 - In a sensational incident at Dholpur in Lakhimpur district, a woman killed her husband and surrendered before the police carrying his severed head.
The incident took place in Kathani-Mazagaon in Dholpur, 60 kms from here on Tuesday night when Guneswari Borkotoky, stabbed her husband Mudhiram Borkotoky in a fit of rage. The woman was distressed by the daily act of domestic violence by her husband who always allegedly came home in a drunken state. On that night too, Mudhiram treated his wife in the same manner and Guneswari retaliated with a dao,severing his head. Later, she wrapped the severed head in a plastic bag and carried it walking five kilometres to the Dholpur PS and surrendered.
Guneswari informed the police that she killed her husband in a fit of rage �distressed� over the frequent domestic violence. �I had no other choice but to kill him�, admitted Guneswari. A mother of five , Guneswari, who is in her mid-forties said, �He (Mudhiram) often came home drunk and was an offender. I had been bearing him for years and should have separated years back. But due to our children, I sacrificed and stayed back. However, his activities were intolerable. Today (on 28th May night) he attempted to kill me, so in an act of self-defence I stabbed him,� said Guneswari.
