Woman killed, 6 others hurt in Manipur mishap

IMPHAL, Oct 11 - One woman was killed while six other passengers sustained serious injuries in a road accident near Pheidingga bridge under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district on Sunday, sources said.

The accident occurred when the passenger bus which was on way to Imphal from Senapati reportedly collided with a truck near the Pheidingga bridge near here around 10.30 am today.

The injured persons have been rushed to the nearby hospital, reports said.

Mild tremor: An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale hit parts of the State at 8.34 am on Sunday. There were no reported casualties or any damage. The epicentre of the tremor was in Senapati district, according to Indian Meteorological Department.

Drugs seized: Troops of 24 Assam Rifles established a vehicle checkpost at Khudengthabi and apprehended a woman along with contraband WY(World is yours) tablets on Saturday, said a press release. She was travelling in a vehicle coming to Imphal. During frisking and checking, 800 WY tablets worth Rs 8,00,000, concealed under betel leaves which she was carrying, was recovered, it added.
