By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Feb 20 - A woman was reportedly gang-raped by three youths at the Madhupur Tea Estate in Sepahijala district on Tuesday, triggering a public outcry all over the State.

Although the police have started an investigation into the incident, no arrest has been made so far. The police said that the victim, a resident of Indranagar on the outskirts here, has not been able to identify the rapists.

The woman, who was out on a morning walk, was allegedly kidnapped by the three youths and taken to the Madhupur Tea Estate in a van. After committing gang rape, the youths left her in a semiconscious condition.

Local people spotted her in the tea estate on Wednesday morning and subsequently alerted the Madhupur Police Station. A police team later rescued her and arranged for her medical tests at the Bishalgharh subdivisional hospital.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered at the Madhupur Police Station.

Two months back, another woman was kidnapped from the GBP Hospital by four persons and gang-raped at an abandoned place near the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport here. All the alleged rapists were arrested within 24 hours of the incident.

Tripura has witnessed two cases of gang rape, 22 of rape, and 1,715 of other crimes against women during the past 23 months of the BJP-IPFT regime in the State, putting a question mark on safety of women in the capital and its outskirts.
