Woman falls between rly tracks, survives

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 25 - A woman aged about 40 years had a miraculous escape in the unmanned railway crossing in Chandmari area this evening after she reportedly lay down between the railway tracks finding a speeding train approaching her all of a sudden.

Jeena Begum, a resident of the citys Bhaskar Nagar area, was reportedly crossing the tracks unaware of the fact that a speeding train was nearing.

The incident took place around 5.30 pm and onlookers claim that the absent minded woman could not hear the shout of the commuters about the approaching train.

The onlookers, to their utter surprise, found the woman alive after the speeding train had passed by.

When she noticed the train, it was only several feet away. Somehow she thought of lying down between the tracks and miraculously survived. It was only when the last bogie of the train was about to cross that she raised her head which resulted in injuries on her forehead, the onlookers claimed.

She was in a state of shock and was rushed to a hospital by Chandmari police. Had she not swiftly taken the last-minute decision to fall flat between the tracks, instead of moving back or forth, she wouldnt have made it, onlookers said.

However, another section of eyewitnesses opined that the woman had apparently tried to commit suicide, which is why she did not take notice of the siren and the shouts of the people around.

An injured Jeena Begum, on the other hand, told this reporter, I fainted while crossing the tracks. That is what I remember.

The woman also told the police that she tripped between the tracks after finding the speeding train just a few feet away.
