New Delhi, March 19 (IANS): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said he had received Dinesh Trivedi's resignation as Railway Minister and proposed to send it to President Pratibha Patil with the recommendation that it be accepted.
Replying to the motion of thanks to the President's address to the joint houses, the Prime Minister said in the Lok Sabha that he regretted Dwivedi's "departure". Manmohan Singh said he received Dwivedi's resignation late Sunday.
The Prime Minister said that Dwivedi, a Trinamool Congress MP, had presented the Railway Budget with the promise to carry forward Vision 2020 that was outlined by his predecessor, Mamata Banerjee. He said the new minister would have to carry forward the challenging task of modernising the railways.
