Wild elephants create havoc

TEZPUR, May 13 - Two persons identified as Doram Hemrom (50) and his wife Shampu Hemrom (40) of Ranagapara Kacharaigaon pam under Rangapara Police Station in Sonitpur district sustained serious injury on Thursday night when they were attacked by a herd of wild elephants.

The elephants also caused damages to property and livestock. The injured have been admitted at Tezpur Medical College Hospital here.

The forest official of Kalamati Gate, Gopal Deka said the ongoing problem in area over the years has been due to the wild elephants coming out to human habitat in search of food. �We have been dealing with the issue very sincerely trying to push the elephant herd to the Sonai Rupai sanctuary so that it cannot cause harm to human beings, besides damaging property,� Deka said.
