Widow fraudulently deprived of her land

GUWAHATI, June 19 � Land mafia have allegedly spread their tentacles also to Goalpara town in the western part of the State, if the complaints made by an aged lady Suchitra Sarkar before the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister of the State is to be believed.

Sarkar, who claims herself to be the wife of Late Pratap Chandra Sarkar and a resident of Kalibari area in Goalpara town, has said that she was the president of the Goalpara District Mahila Congress Committee in 1985.

She has alleged that some miscreants, who include one legal practitioner too, have sold her plot of land measuring one bigha and six lechas, with patta number 218 (new) and dag number 66 (new), belonging to her at Bhalukdubi part-I, under Balijana Circle of Goalpara.

The miscreants sold that plot of land through a fraudulent sale deed on May 27 last. They presented a lady belonging to Coochbehar in neighbouring West Bengal, before the ASO, Balijana Circle impersonating her (Suchitra Sarkar).

Though she has lodged a formal complaint with the Goalpara police in this connection under section 120 (B)/466/468/506/34 IPC, but the police have failed to initiate any action against those miscreants, alleged Sarkar in her petitions to the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister, pleading for appropriate actions for the protection of her life and property.
