GANGTOK, Oct 31 - West Sikkim district was awarded a medal and certificate for achieving 90 per cent immunisation coverage under the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) programme. The award was presented at a �Pulse Polio Silver Jubilee� commemorative event held in New Delhi.
The event was attended by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harshvardhan and other dignitaries.
The award was received by West Sikkim District Collector Karma R Bonpo and Chief Medical Officer of the district, Dr Tsheten Namgyal Bhutia.
West Sikkim is among 16 districts in the country which have achieved 90 per cent immunisation coverage. It was made possible due to the efforts of workers of the Health Department, doctors and nurses, sources said.
