West Garo Hills admin lodges FIR over assault on student

TURA, April 27 - Taking serious cognizance of the case of assault on a student by the headmistress of Aeroville Secondary School, Tura, the district administration today confirmed that a FIR has been filed in this regard.

Following media reports, the school management committee has also sought detailed information from the teacher concerned after an emergency meeting today, within 48 hours of issue of the notice.

Further, the school has also decided to convene a parent-teacher meeting on April 30.

It may be mentioned here that on April 24, the headmistress of Aeroville, Sanne B Sangma, allegedly beat up a student for failing to bring her workbook to school. The girl student suffered injuries on her head and ear.

The incident led to a huge outcry in the Garo Hills, with the public demanding stringent action against the teacher.

Meanwhile, West Garo Hills DC Ram Singh, through the administration�s social media page stated, �An FIR has been registered with the Tura Woman PS. A magistrate and the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) will conduct a brief inquiry and a supplementary FIR will be filed accordingly. Action will be taken against all those involved.�

The DC also stated that a meeting of all private schools would be called on May 1 to discuss the matter so that such incidents do not recur in future.
